MANGALURU: A monkey, which was in a critical condition after getting electric shock, got a new lease of life, thanks to four good samaritans who not only administered it medical help, but also gave it food and water.
Not only this, according to the veterinarian who treated the monkey, the four men have taken up the responsibility to take care of the simian till it recovers to its fullest health.
The incident took place near Gampadadka in Punjalkatte, around 47km from here.
A couple of days ago, an approximately five-month-old monkey accidentally came in contact with a high tension wire at a farm and fell onto the ground. Though the area is populated, no person came to its rescue and it kept struggling with severe burn injuries and without food and water.
Fortunately, the four men happened to pass by and they took it upon themselves to rescue the ailing monkey.
According to Dr Vinay Kumar, veterinarian, Madanthyar Veterinary Dispensary, the four men brought the monkey, which was conscious in spite of the severe burn injuries, to the dispensary on Sunday.
“It had sustained severe injury on its back and suffered fractures in its forelimbs. The wounds were infected with maggots and worms. Thankfully, the men had fed the monkey since previous day and it survived. I have prescribed medication which those men will administer to the animal,” Dr Kumar told TOI.
